A peer support "warmline" has launched in Wisconsin for residents who are seeking mental health support but not emergency services, The Green Bay Press Gazette reported Aug. 3.
UpliftWI launched July 31 with financial support from a $600,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Human Services. The line, which is open twelve hours a day, is available for residents to discuss mental health and substance use concerns with a peer-support specialist.
These peer-support specialists pull from their lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorder to provide support and advice to callers. While the specialists do not provide clinical treatment, they can be used as a resource to address mental health needs early, the report said.
