Penn State seeks new site for psychiatric institute

Penn State Health is searching for a new site for the Harrisburg-based Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute.

According to a May 1 news release from Hershey-based Penn State Health, the lease for the institute's current location will expire in May 2026. The system has been unable to renew the lease.

Options for relocation include renovating space at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center in Camp Hill or constructing a new site. Penn State is also looking for sites to host its outpatient and psychiatric, behavioral and addiction treatment services.

Construction on a new site needs to begin by late summer to ensure continuity of care for patients, according to the news release.

"We are committed to making the transition as seamless as possible and to minimize any disruption of care and services for our patients and their families, clinicians, staff, educators, students and researchers," Erika Saunders, MD, chair of the department of psychiatry and behavioral health at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, said.
