Incident at Houston behavioral hospital leaves 1 dead: Police

One person is dead and another was injured after a disturbance inside Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, according to police. 

Houston police responded to the facility in the early afternoon Feb. 21, Lt. Larry Crowson told ABC affiliate KTRK. Three male patients were fighting and no weapons were involved. The incident left one person dead and another was treated and stabilized after being rushed to the hospital. 

In a Feb. 22 news release, police said a man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead after a male suspect, Erik Bonito, entered the man's room and assaulted   him. Mr. Bonito was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder in the 209th State District Court. 

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is an acute care psychiatric hospital for adolescents and adults. It offers both inpatient services and outpatient programs. Becker's has reached out to the facility and will update this report if more information becomes available.
