New York plans $50M behavioral bed expansion

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced the availability of $50 million to expand inpatient behavioral health services across the state.

The funding — part of a $1 billion investment in transforming the state's mental health system — will be used to add new inpatient capacity for hospitals with both youth and adult behavioral health patients, according to a Jan. 11 press release.

The funding will provide awards of up to $5 million to be used for the design, property acquisition and construction costs. Eligible facilities for the funding include freestanding Article 31 psychiatric hospitals and Article 28 licensed general hospitals.
