CDC launches initiative to reduce burnout in healthcare: 3 things to know

The CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has launched Impact Wellbeing, a national campaign offering resources that address physician burnout to hospital leaders.

The campaign follows recently published data from the CDC that found healthcare workers reported averaging 4.5 poor mental health days over the last 30 days.

Here are three resources the campaign is offering to hospital leaders to normalize seeking help and strengthen provider well-being:

  1. The NIOSH Worker Well-Being Questionnaire can be used to check in on the workforce and identify ways to improve well-being.
  2. The Leadership Storytelling Guide advises hospital leaders on how to talk publicly about getting help for their own mental health concerns, while encouraging staff to also seek support.
  3. The Total Worker Health Strategies resource serves as a training guide on supportive supervision for front-line supervisors looking to help their staff balance work and home responsibilities.
