The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston has partnered with computer software company Blackbaud to develop a digital education program for K-12 students focused on preventive behavioral health, according to a July 10 report from ABC affiliate WCIV.
The program will be launched in 70 schools across the state in Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Orangeburg, Bamberg and Calhoun counties. The program includes a variety of classes tailored to both younger and older students.
The Compassion Project teaches second through fifth grade students about the social-emotional skill of compassion, while Understanding Mental Wellness teaches eighth through 12th grade students about coping strategies to manage their mental health.
The program also includes courses like AlcoholEDU and Vaping: Know the Truth, the report said.
