Michigan mental health facility to embark on $3.4M expansion

Ishpeming, Mich.-based Great Lakes Recovery Centers is setting up to expand for a new campus, WJMN reported April 27.

The $3.4 million expansion was made possible by a $300,000 donation from the West End Health Foundation, which will be divided up over five years, and a $2.8 million grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. GLRC is still awaiting donations for the remainder of funds needed for the project.

The new John Kivela Center will offer residential treatment for women with substance use disorder issues and include detoxification services, a recovery house for women and their children, outpatient mental and physical health services, psychiatric care, mental health and substance use disorder outpatient counseling, and neurodevelopmental trauma assessments.

The center was formerly known as the Teal Lake Medical Building, but has been renamed to honor former state representative John Kivela, who passed away in 2017.
