Texas was named the worst state for mental healthcare in the U.S. for the second year in a row, according to a ranking from Forbes Advisor.
The publication issued its annual ranking of the best and worst states for mental healthcare May 3.
Forbes Advisor scored states' mental healthcare on seven metrics, including the percentage of adults with a mental illness who do not receive treatment and the percentage of adults with a mental illness who do not receive adequate treatment.
The ranking also considers the percentage of adults struggling with mental health who could not see a doctor due to cost, the percentage of adults with mental illness who are uninsured, and other metrics.
Texas was also named the worst state for mental healthcare in 2023. In Texas, only 1 in 5 adults with mental illness are insured, and 3 in 4 youth with depression do not receive treatment, according to Forbes Advisor.
