3 states host 60% of the best hospitals for psychiatry

Massachusetts, California and Maryland made the most frequent appearances on U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals for Psychiatry" ranking.

The 15 hospitals at the top of the ranking comprise seven hospitals that were nationally ranked and eight that were rated as "high performing." Nine of the top 15 hospitals are located in Massachusetts, California and Maryland.

Massachusetts hosts the top two hospitals for psychiatry, along with one other high-performing hospital:

No. 1 McLean Hospital (Belmont)

No. 2 Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston)

Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston)

California hosts two ranked and one high-performing hospital:

No. 5 Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA (Los Angeles)

No. 6 UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco)

Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital

Maryland hosts one ranked and two high-performing hospitals:

No. 4 Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore)

Sheppard Pratt Hospital (Baltimore)

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center
