San Antonio school district receives $2.6M for mental health services

The North East Independent School District in San Antonio has been granted $2.6 million to fund mental health services for students and families, KSAT reported March 23.

The grant will go toward hiring social workers and support staff and a contract with a local vendor who will connect the district with additional licensed mental health professionals.

It will also fund an expansion of the district's partnership with University of Texas Health, also in San Antonio, which offers mental health evaluations and short-term counseling through the Texas Child Access Through Telemedicine program.

The funds come from the American Rescue Plan Act and were approved by the Bexar County Commission.
