Proposed Michigan law would require insurance to cover mental health

A Michigan bill is looking to require insurance companies to cover mental health and substance use care treatment, according to a Nov. 13 report from the Detroit Free Press.

Under HB 4707, insurance companies across the state would be required to provide coverage for medically necessary treatment of mental health issues, including eating disorders, addiction and mental illness.

The bill is sponsored by state representative Felicia Brabec, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist. It will be back on the table once the Michigan legislature reconvenes after it ended its most recent session early, the release said.
