Maryland lawmakers introduce 7 bills to improve mental healthcare

Maryland lawmakers have introduced a package of seven bills to address mental health in the state, according to a Feb. 20 report from WTOP News.

The bills aim to achieve two goals: modernize Maryland's mental health system and increase access to mental health treatment in the state, the report said.

One of the seven bills has already been passed in the Senate through a unanimous vote. This bill would allocate $12 million to fund the state's transition to the national mental health crisis hotline.

Three bills in the package have undergone hearings with the Senate Finance Committee, with the other three bills set to undergo consideration in the coming weeks. One of the bills seeks to establish community behavioral health clinics.
