Genesee Health System gifted $2.3M for mental health services

Flint, Mich.-based Genesee Health System has received over $2.3 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for mental healthcare and substance abuse treatment in the area, the Grand Blanc View reported April 20.

Funds will also go toward a new psychiatry training center in the community to bolster the mental healthcare workforce.

"There is a significant need for psychiatrists in Genesee County, so this is a conversation we have been having locally for 20 years, and we are excited to be taking the first step," Danis Russell, CEO of Genesee Health, told the publication. "Having a teaching facility in Genesee County will allow additional access to these much-needed services."
