California county looks to open sobering center

City councils in Butte County, Calif., are discussing whether to contribute funds for a sobering center in the county, according to a Jan. 29 report from Action News Now.

The center would offer a space for people to sober up and get connected to on-site treatment, in addition to serving as a place for law enforcement to drop off people under the influence. It aims to be open 24 hours a day.

The project is estimated to cost the county $1.8 million to open and an annual estimated cost of $800,000. The earliest it could open is this July, the report said.
