Trinity Health to close inpatient unit at Michigan hospital

Trinity Health is closing the adult inpatient behavioral health unit at its hospital in Chelsea, Mich., ABC affiliate WXYZ reported April 28.

The Livonia, Mich.-based health system's 30-bed unit will close in December, according to WXYZ. Fourteen of the beds will move to other Trinity facilities, 12 of which will be relocated to the group's hospital in Ann Arbor. Eight beds will move to another facility in Southeast Michigan, leaving eight unaccounted for.

Ben Miles, president of Chelsea Hospital, told WXYZ he attributes the closure to staffing challenges and other factors, including competition for resources.

The health system is looking to create a transition care clinic, according to the news station.
