Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine plans to open a crisis response center at its Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania-Cedar Avenue, also in Philadelphia, Penn Today reported May 19.
The health system will also move inpatient psychiatric and drug and alcohol detox units from its Philadelphia-based Penn Presbyterian Medical Center to HUP Cedar in July.
Penn Medicine will invest nearly $6 million in the new center. Philadelphia's Department of Behavioral Health has also earmarked $4.1 million of reinvestment funds from the state's managed care program toward the project.
The center is expected to have 4,000 patient visits per year and is slated to open in late summer. Additional space has been made available for future behavioral health expansions over the next five years.
