Frequent mental distress rates by state | 2023

West Virginia has the highest rate of frequent mental distress, while Hawaii has the lowest, according to data published Dec. 5 by the United Health Foundation.

The report defined frequent mental distress as poor mental health lasting 14 or more days over the past 30 days.
