HHS launches maternal mental health taskforce

HHS is creating a maternal mental health taskforce as part of a larger initiative aimed at improving maternal health.

According to a Sept. 27 news release, the task force will find opportunities to improve data and health equity, and it will create a strategy to implement best practices around prevention, screening and diagnosis of maternal mental health conditions.

The task force will be chaired by Adm. Rachel Levine, MD, HHS' assistant secretary for health, and Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, PhD.

The task force is part of a broader $103 million effort from HHS to address maternal health.
