Longtime CEO of Hawaiian island's largest mental health nonprofit to retire

Jud Cunningham, the CEO of Maui (Hawaii) Behavioral Health Resources, is set to retire on June 30 after serving as CEO for 27 years, according to a June 24 report from The Maui News.

MBHR is the largest nonprofit mental health treatment provider on the island of Maui and is composed of three nonprofit agencies: Aloha House, Malama Family Recovery Center, and Maui Youth & Family Services.

Mr. Cunningham expanded mental health and substance abuse treatment services in Maui County by rebuilding an outpatient treatment program for substance abuse, adding detox and drug court programs, providing treatment for inmates moving out of correctional centers and introducing substance abuse prevention education for youth, according to the report.

After more than 50 years of working in behavioral health and human services, Mr. Cunningham is passing the torch to current Chief Operating Officer Nicole Hokoana, who will begin July 1.
