American Psychiatric Association names new CEO

Marketa Wills, MD, has been named the next CEO and medical director of the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Wills will join the APA from Johns Hopkins Health Plans, where she currently serves as senior vice president and chief medical officer, according to a Feb. 2 news release. She also has a clinical practice at University of South Florida Student Health Services in Tampa, Fla.

Dr. Wills currently sits on the APA's council on healthcare systems and finance and has previously been a member of the board of trustees as an APA SAMHSA minority fellow and the Future of Psychiatry Presidential task Force.

When she assumes the role June 1, Dr. Wills will be the first woman and Black American to serve as APA's medical director, the release said.
