Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital, Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health and Tampa-based USF Health Morsani College of Medicine held a grand opening for the facility Feb. 25. The TGH Behavioral Health Hospital will open to patients in March, according to a Feb. 25 news release.

The facility, a joint venture between Tampa General and Lifepoint, has 96 beds. Inpatient treatment at the hospital will open first, with partial hospitalization and outpatient programs available in the next few months, according to the release.

Physicians from the Morsani College of Medicine’s psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences department will staff the facility and provide inpatient and outpatient specialized care. The hospital will be a training site for medical students and residents at USF.

Doug Leonardo was named CEO of the hospital in July.

“Having the opportunity to be a behavioral health teaching hospital is pretty amazing,” Mr. Leonardo told Becker’s in 2024. “Nationally, we’re faced with a huge workforce issue when it comes to behavioral health for all providers — psychiatrists, therapists. Being able to be in a setting where we can help attract, retain and grow that workforce that’s going to care for patients now and into the future is a pretty remarkable opportunity.”
