Multiple juvenile patients were arrested after two disturbances Oct. 4 at Oasis Behavioral Health in Chandler, Ariz., involving assaults on staff and police officers and unauthorized access to controlled substances, according to a Chandler Police Department statement shared with Becker’s.
Police records show 278 general offense reports so far in 2026 at the facility, which is owned and operated by Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare. The department defines general offense reports as the narratives officers write following a service call.
Police responded to the facility Oct. 4 at about 7:35 p.m. after a report of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they learned that dozens of juvenile patients were acting disorderly and that a nurse had been assaulted. Facility staff took the nurse to a local hospital for treatment. The juvenile patient identified as responsible was taken into custody and booked on one count of aggravated assault, the statement said.
At about 10:30 p.m., while officers were still on scene, several juvenile patients forced their way into a locked medication room, damaged a dispensing machine and gained access to controlled substances. Multiple patients ingested medication and were treated by Chandler Fire Department personnel before being taken to a local hospital, according to police.
A nurse and another staff member were assaulted during the second incident. Two juvenile patients identified as responsible for those assaults were booked into juvenile detention, and the Arizona Department of Child Safety was notified, the statement said.
Two Chandler police officers were also assaulted while trying to control the disturbance, resulting in the arrest and booking of two juvenile patients on aggravated assault charges.
When reached for comment, Acadia referred Becker’s to the Chandler Police statement.
