Facebook, Instagram sued for 'exploiting young people for profit' amid mental health crisis

Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta Platforms was hit with eight new lawsuits accusing the company of exploiting children and young adults for profit, Fox Business reported June 11.

The lawsuits allege Meta is failing to protect young and at-risk people by using addictive psychological tactics, the report said. They allege that prolonged exposure to Facebook and Instagram has led to suicides, self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, depression and sleep problems.

The eight lawsuits were filed in Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas, the report said.
