Cigna donates $9M to veteran mental health

The Cigna Group will provide $9 million over three years to projects providing housing and mental health support to veterans.

The first year of funding will go toward organizations providing housing to veterans, according to an Aug. 12 news release.

Habitat for Humanity International is among the first recipients of the grant money. Cigna provided the organization with $250,000 to support its Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing initiative, which provides case management support to veterans receiving federal housing vouchers.

After two years in the program, veterans are eligible to use federal vouchers to purchase affordable housing constructed by Habitat for Humanity.

Applications for the program are open through Aug. 28, according to the news release. Organizations supporting permanent housing, rental and mortgage assistance, or wraparound support services for veterans, will be given priority for the first year of funding.
