UHS financial report: 6 takeaways for behavioral health leaders

King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services reported higher revenue but a lower profit in the second quarter of 2022, the company said July 25. 

6 key takeaways on UHS behavioral health numbers:

1. Compared to the second quarter of 2021, adjusted admissions at behavioral healthcare facilities dropped 0.1 percent, while adjusted patient days rose 0.7 percent.

2. Behavioral health net revenue per adjusted admission rose 2.6 percent, and net revenue per adjusted patient day rose 1.8 percent, compared to the second quarter of 2021.

3. Second-quarter net revenue from behavioral healthcare services rose 0.5 percent, compared to the same period in 2021.

4. In the six-month period ending on June 30, adjusted admissions on a same facility basis dropped 1 percent, while adjusted patient days dropped 0.3 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

5. Also in the first six months of 2022, net revenue per adjusted admission rose 4.2 percent and net revenue per adjusted patient day rose 3.4 percent compared to the first six months of 2021.

6. Behavioral healthcare net revenues rose 2.1 percent in the first six months of 2022 versus the same period in 2021.
