UCHealth adds new inpatient unit

Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth is constructing a new inpatient unit at its Aurora campus, NBC affiliate KOAA reported March 6.

The unit will provide care for individuals with severe mood and thought disorders requiring intensive treatments like electroconvulsive therapy.

"For the folks who have treatment-resistant depression, we're going to be able to get to the level of interventional psychiatry," Edward MacPhee, MD, clinical director of psychiatry for UCHealth, told the news outlet.

The new unit is part of the health system's five-year, $150 million behavioral health investment project that began in 2019.
