The cities with the most, fewest mental health providers per capita

The city with the highest proportion of mental health counselors per capita has 12 times more than the city with the lowest, according to personal finance website WalletHub.

The "Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in America" list for 2024 ranked 182 of the U.S.' most populated cities, including at least two of the most populated cities in each state, across four categories — healthcare, food, fitness and green space — and also awarded the cities an overall score based on all four areas. Below are the five cities with the most mental health counselors per capita:

3. Rapid City, S.D.

4. Richmond, Va.

5. Sioux Falls, S.D.

Here are the five cities with the fewest mental health counselors per capita, starting with the city with the least:

1. Laredo, Texas

2 (tie). North Las Vegas, Nev.

2 (tie). Henderson, Nev.

2 (tie). Las Vegas

5. Portland, Maine
