Providence Sacred Heart hospital to lay off 8 psychiatric physicians

Spokane, Wash.-based Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center plans to lay off eight psychiatric physicians, The Spokesman Review reported Dec. 21.

The cuts are expected to save the hospital between $2 million to $4 million. The physicians will continue working at the facility through March 2023. The psychiatric physicians who remain will be expected to train residents and provide outpatient care.

The hospital plans to hire three advanced nurse practitioners to care for psychiatric patients.

The physicians who were laid off will be eligible to apply for other positions in the hospital.
