Longtime activist and philanthropist Billie Kubly invested $5 million to improve suicide prevention programs and access to behavioral health services at the Medical College of Wisonsin in Milwaukee.
Ms. Kubly and her late husband, Michael Kubly, MD, have previously donated to support research into new therapies and interventions and efforts to reduce the stigma around seeking mental health treatment, according to a Sept. 23 announcement from the medical school.
"We know that prevention and intervention efforts work," Terri deRoon-Cassini, PhD, director of the school's Comprehensive Injury Center, said in the announcement. "Mrs. Kubly's generosity gives us an opportunity to launch this work and save lives."
The funding will be divided between two funds, one to establish a faculty position to coordinate sucide prevention, community programming and research and one to provide the income for the staffing position.
