The city of San Diego is considering declaring a crisis over the shortage of behavioral health beds, CBS affiliate KFMB reported Oct. 4.

Hospitals and health systems are closing inpatient behavioral health units and other care sites, with many transferring these services to other facilities. 

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has awarded $35 million to support essential behavioral health services and HIV prevention and care in historically underserved populations.

HCA Florida Trinity West Hospital, a mental health hospital in New Port Richey, has closed. 

Ascension Providence has announced that it will close the DePaul Center and its outpatient behavioral health clinic in Waco, Texas, CBS affiliate KWTX reported Oct. 3.

Suburban Community Hospital in Norristown, Pa., has laid off its behavioral health unit staff. 

Officials have broken ground on a mental health research facility that will also offer clinical care in Salt Lake City, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Oct. 3.

A MultiCare behavioral health clinic has opened in Spokane, Wash., NBC affiliate KHQ reported Oct. 2.

Telehealth visit volume has declined by 45.8 percent between 2020 and 2022, dropping from 76.6 million visits to 41.5 million, according to a recent report by market research firm Trilliant Health.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Bradford Health Services named Lisa Evans as CEO, according to an Oct. 3 news release.
