Portland, Ore.-based Legacy Health is being sued for $4 million after a patient allegedly assaulted a woman outside its Unity Center for Behavioral Health, OPB reported March 28.
According to a police report, Sonya Gonzales was allegedly assaulted with a large rock and possibly knocked unconscious by Unity patient Dwayne Simpson. In the lawsuit, Ms. Gonzales alleges the facility did not have sufficient security and should have known Mr. Simpson was dangerous, according to court documents obtained by the publication.
Mr. Simpson, who was admitted to the center earlier that day, was charged with attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He had also been admitted to the center two weeks prior and allegedly said he had violent ideations about assaulting a woman.
He also faces two counts of second degree mischief after allegedly breaking vehicle windows and telling a gas station attendant he was hearing voices telling him to kill everyone. This incident occurred before the alleged assault with Ms. Gonzales.
