Ohio is aiming to spend $85 million in federal funds to draw people toward careers in behavioral health, NBC affiliate KPVI reported May 16.
The state's plan uses American Rescue Act funds and focuses on education, the report said. It intends to create more paid internships and provide scholarships for students working toward behavioral health degrees at state two- and four-year colleges and universities.
Funding is also expected to be made available to workers for professional licenses, certificates and testing, the report said. Also planned is a technical assistance center that would help students find more federal and state funding.
Students who commit to work with Ohio's community mental health and addiction centers are expected to be eligible for recruitment and retention bonuses through the state's plan, the report said.
