Dayton (Ohio) Children's Hospital will receive $25 million from the state's American Rescue Plan funds, which will be used to build a new freestanding mental health building that will allow for an expansion of services.
The funding was given through the Pediatric Behavioral Health Initiative, which is an $84 million project dedicated to increasing mental health services and support across Ohio, reported local news source WYSO.
The new center will double the number of behavioral health inpatient beds currently available at Dayton Children's, expand specialized program development, create a singular location for inpatient, outpatient and crisis treatment, increase outdoor space, and improve treatment through utilizing cross-trained staff, according to a May 16 press release from the hospital.
Hospital officials expect the facility to open in the spring of 2025.
