North Carolina to convert addiction care center to pediatric psychiatric hospital

North Carolina's health department plans to convert the Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center in Butner into a psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents, the Winston-Salem Journal reported Dec. 11.

The Blackley center will be revamped into a 54-bed inpatient facility, the publication reported. Morrisville, N.C.-based UNC Health is leading the project, which could open as soon as July 1.

Adults in need of treatment for addiction will be given the option to continue care at other state treatment centers or private substance use disorder treatment providers, according to the report.
