NHL's Pat Maroon makes $2K donation to mental health organization following announcer comments

Tampa Bay (Fla.) Lightning forward Pat Maroon made a $2,000 donation to Tampa Bay Thrives, a mental wellness organization, on behalf of NESN's Jack Edwards in response to the announcer's comments on his weight, CBS Boston reported Nov. 30.

"Listed at 238 pounds — that was day one of training camp," Mr. Edwards said, according to the news outlet. "I've got a feeling he's had a few more pizzas between then and now. Fasting, [intermittent] fasting for Pat Maroon is like four hours without a meal. But, hey, three Cups in a row, who can argue with his formula?"

Mr. Maroon then tweeted about his donation and encouraged his followers to do the same by including a link to Tampa Bay Thrives.

"Words matter, and the words we choose to use can impact the mental well-being of others," the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation said in a follow-up tweet, also encouraging fans to donate to the organization.
