1. Michael Barsom, MD. Executive Director of Metropolitan State Hospital (Norwalk, Calif.): 976 beds

A psychiatric specialist by training, Dr. Barsom has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, and 18 years in various roles at MSH. He has served as the hospital's head since 2019, and before that was executive director of San Bernardino, Calif.-based Patton State Hospital for two years. From 2003 to 2017, he served in roles including executive director, medical director, chief of medical staff and staff psychiatrist at MSH. He serves as a board member at Coast Plaza Hospital in Norwalk.

2. Dwaine Shaw. CEO at Spring Grove Hospital Center (Cantonsville, Md.): 639 beds

Mr. Shaw has served in legal roles including at law firm Riggs Abney Neal Turpen Orbison & Lewis in Tulsa, Okla., since June 2013. He "advised health care providers on various health care compliance/regulatory issues including nursing and medical malpractice matters," according to his LinkedIn page. He has also served as the executive director at Oklahoma City-based Rose Rock Academy, a children's behavioral health facility.

3. Dolly Matteucci. Superintendent Oregon State Hospital (Salem): 577 beds

The Oregon Health Authority named Ms. Matteucci superintendent of Oregon State Hospital in February 2018. She previously served for more than 30 years at Napa (Calif.) State Hospital, including eight years as its executive director. She has served in various administrative and managerial positions since beginning her career as a clinical dietician in 1987.

4. Jordan Butler. CEO at Springfield Hospital Center (Sykesville, Md.): 522 beds

Mr. Butler was appointed to his current role in December 2021, and previously served for more than five years with the Maryland Department of Health in roles including CFO, budget director and supervising budget examiner. He served in the US Peace Corps as an education volunteer in Madagascar from June 2008 to March 2009.

5. Christopher Morrison. CEO at Ancora (N.J.) Psychiatric Hospital: 515 beds

Mr. Morrison was named CEO of Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in 2015, and previously served as deputy CEO at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital. He was with Trenton Psychiatric for 16 years, including eight years as deputy CEO.

6. Doreen Piazza, MSN. Executive Director at South Beach Psychiatric Center (New York City): 507 beds

Ms. Piazza has served in her current role since August 2017. She has previously served as South Beach Psychiatric Center's deputy director of operation, and has been with the organization for more than 19 years.

7. Jill Marshall. CEO of Colorado Mental Health Institute-Pueblo: 478 beds

Ms. Marshall stepped into her current role in March 2018. She has previously served as the executive director of the New Mexico Intermediate Care Facility, according to The Pueblo Chieftain. She has also served as chief officer of the New Mexico Department of Health, and has worked with the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.

8. Brian Belfi, PsyD. Executive Director at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center (New York City): 475 beds

Dr. Belfi is the executive director of both Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center and Manhattan Psychiatric Center. He has previously served as an adjunct professor for Fordham University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and Adelphi University and is a faculty member at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Belfi has also served in roles at multiple correctional facilities.

9. Thomas Rosamilia. Interim CEO at Greystone Park (N.J.) Psychiatric Hospital: 468 beds

Mr. Rosamilia stepped into the CEO role at Greystone Park on Feb. 3, 2022. He was previously vice president of behavioral health for Paramus, N.J.-based Bergen Regional Medical Center. He has also served as the manager of behavioral health services at Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center, and as administrator for behavioral health at Covington, Ga.-based Newton Medical Center. Mr. Rosamilia was project leader for the CMS/New Jersey Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment Project.

10. Vivan Streater, BSN, RN. CEO at Broughton Hospital (Morganton, N.C.): 431 beds

Vivian Streater has been with Broughton Hospital since 1996. She previously served as the hospital's chief nursing officer. Ms. Streater has led Broughton since 2012, when she was named co-interim director after the previous CEO stepped down.
