Kansas medical center receives $75K grant to expand behavioral health workforce

Hays, Kan.-based High Plains Mental Health Center in has received a $75,000 grant from the Schmidt Foundation to expand the behavioral health workforce in northwest Kansas, according to a June 26 report from the Hays Post.

The grant will be used to send six health center staff members through a master’s program at Fort Hays State University. Four staff members will pursue a master’s degree in social work, while the other two will enter a master’s in clinical mental health counseling program.

All six staff members will continue working at High Plains Mental Health Center as outpatient therapists following the two-year program, the report said. Five staff members work out of the main office in Hays, and one will be based out of the Colby branch.
