Iowa approves 96-bed behavioral health hospital

A plan to build a 96-bed behavioral health hospital to be built in Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been approved by the state, the Omaha World-Herald reported Nov. 20.

The hospital will be a joint project between Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, an affiliate of Omaha, Neb.-based Methodist Health System, and Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare, the largest standalone behavioral healthcare company in the country.

The two organizations will invest more than $55 million in the hospital with the intention of increasing access to behavioral health services in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa, with 29 licensed inpatient beds at Jennie Edmundson's behavioral health unit moving to the new facility, the report said.
