General telehealth dips 46%, but telebehavioral health remains strong

Telehealth visit volume has declined by 45.8 percent between 2020 and 2022, dropping from 76.6 million visits to 41.5 million, according to a recent report by market research firm Trilliant Health.

Although primary care and other specialty care visits have decreased, behavioral telehealth visits have continued to rise. Telebehavioral health has grown by 20.1 percent to become 63 percent of overall telehealth visits.

Anxiety disorders were the most common condition seeing an increase in visits at 44.9 percent, followed by eating disorders at 41 percent, while schizophrenia visits fell 14.9 percent between 2019 and 2022.
