7 young leaders making waves in mental health

As rates of untreated depression hit "critically high" levels, organizations are pushing for mental health resources to be made a national priority. 

More than 47 million people in the U.S. experienced an episode of mental illness in 2021, underlining the need for accessible, affordable mental health treatment.

Forbes' "30 under 30"  list recognizes 30 people younger than 30 in industries including healthcare, music and more who are changing their respective industry for the better.

Here are seven individuals highlighted by the publication for their efforts in the mental health industry.

 

  • Madison Campbell and Liesel Vaidya: Ms. Campbell and Ms. Vaidya founded Leda Health, an online community for survivors of sexual assault. The company offers online group therapy sessions, a 24/7 care team, at-home testing for sexually transmitted infections and Plan B. 

 

  • Gabriela Asturias, MD, and Mackenzie Drazan: Dr. Asturias and Ms. Drazan founded MiResource, a startup aimed at connecting college-age patients to mental healthcare. 

 

  • Lucia Huang and Jimmy Qian, MD: Ms. Huang and Dr. Qian founded Osmind, a mental health treatment and research software platform for providers to help streamline mental healthcare services.

 

  • Jennifer Tsai, MD: Dr. Tsai, a resident at Yale School of Medicine, works to advance health equity and anti-racism in medicine. Her research has uncovered harms of race-based tools, including kidney function tests and racial differences in opioid addiction treatment.
