$6.8M approved for behavioral health crisis center in Cleveland

The Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services approved a $6.8 million capital grant for the development of a behavioral health crisis center in the Central neighborhood of Cleveland.

The grant recipients are the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board of Cuyahoga County, MetroHealth and St. Vincent Charity Community Health Center, all based in Cleveland.

The funding will be used to renovate St. Vincent's facilities, which is the designated site for the crisis center. The ADAMHS will oversee the project and operations funding. MetroHealth caregivers will provide 24/7 wraparound services once the crisis center opens in the fall of 2024, according to an Aug. 29 news release from MetroHealth.

The new center will include a crisis intake and receiving center with a "living room" model designed to provide a range of acuity assessment and treatment. The psychiatric emergency services will offer acute care to individuals with severe behavioral health concerns. Finally, it will include a 16-bed crisis stabilization unit for patients who need more time before they can be placed or linked to community services, according to the release.
