The report includes a survey, conducted in August 2022, that received responses from 326 physicians and healthcare administrators.

Here are her three tips to mitigate burnout she gleaned during her role as chief medical officer at Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital:

1. Addressing EHR pain points

Dr. Dudley and her team used data to see who was struggling and then delivered “at the elbow support with experts.”

2. Mental health support

Helping struggling physicians access mental health support is critical, Dr. Dudley said. Her team built a faculty training mental health program where physicians could go to a dedicated email and protected phone line for a consultation with a psychiatrist or psychologist.

3. Creating team collegiality

Dr. Dudley’s team created a project that enabled physicians to get together for social activities.
