One in four mental health patients is rejected from mental health facilities in King County, Wash., The Seattle Times reported Sept. 5.
Patients experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis were turned away from care at facilities throughout the county 1,173 times in 2022, according to a report from King County’s behavioral health and recovery division.
The leading cause of these rejections was not bed availability but additional needs, such as those resulting from them cognitive or developmental disabilities, being too acute or having a recorded history with aggressive behavior, the report said.
