10 most, least expensive states for therapy

New York is the most expensive state for average therapy fees, according to a study by behavioral health site Zencare. Iowa sits at the other end of the spectrum.

Alaska comes in as the second-most expensive, and four of the top 10 are in the Northeast region. Seven states have average fees of $200 or higher per visit, and only five have fees of $150 or lower.

The 10 most expensive states by average therapy session fee:

  1. New York - $213.40
  2. Alaska - $207.30
  3. Maine - $206.50
  4. Utah - $203.40
  5. New Hampshire - $202
  6. Hawaii - $200
  7. Mississippi - $200
  8. New Jersey - $198.20
  9. West Virginia - $196
  10. Nebraska - $193

Five of the 10 least expensive states for therapy are in the Western U.S. Seven states have average fees of $200 or higher per session, and only five have fees of $150 or lower.

  2. Wyoming - $145
  3. Oregon - $145.30
  4. North Carolina - $149
  5. Montana - $150
  6. Indiana - $152.50
  7. Louisiana - $155
  8. Texas - $159

  10. Colorado - $163.20
