10 highest-paying states for psychiatrists

Psychiatrists make an average of $247,350 annually in the U.S., according to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational employment statistics survey.

By comparison, general medicine physicians make an average of $242,190 and nurses make an average of $77,600. Last year, psychiatrist pay averaged $249,760.

Psychiatrists are paid the most in North Dakota, earning $390,140 each year. They earn the least in Hawaii, earning an average of $131,480 per year.
