The Behavioral Health Center at Lancaster (Pa.) General Hospital is building out additional capacity for ketamine treatments following high demand, LancasterOnline reported June 6.

The center houses the Interventional Psychiatry Program, which offers psychiatric care for patients who don’t respond well to first-line treatments. The center is expected to surpass its goal of 900 patients this year.

According to the report, the program is seeing high demand for intranasal ketamine treatments and transcranial magnetic stimulation. In the last month, the center has administered 93 intranasal ketamine treatments and nine intravenous ketamine treatments.

Because of high demand, the hospital is working to build additional capacity for the treatments, including hiring a new psychiatrist.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
