Researchers at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Mass., have received a $21 million grant to conduct a study on perinatal mental health equity.
The grant was awarded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, according to a Dec. 7 news release.
The study will be led by Christopher Sheldrick, PhD, professor of psychiatry at Chan Medical School; Nancy Byatt, DO, professor of psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology and of population and quantitative health sciences at Chan; and Wendy Davis, PhD, the executive director of Postpartum Support International, a nonprofit family support organization.
The Pathways to Perinatal Mental Health Equity research study will compare 32 OB-GYN practices across the country through a cluster randomized control trial, with half following a healthcare model of improving mood and anxiety disorder care and the other half following the healthcare-community partnership model.
