The number of suicide deaths in the U.S. went from 45,979 in 2020 to 48,183 in 2021, an increase of 4.8 percent, according to the most recent data released by the CDC.
The data was collected by the CDC from the National Vital Statistics System multiple cause-of-death mortality files for 2018 to 2021, according to the report, which was published Feb. 10.

- The rate of suicide among individuals ages 10 to 24 increased by 2.8 percent from 2018 to 2021.
- Suicide rates among individuals ages 25 to 44 increased by 5 percent overall from 2018 to 2021.
- The rate of suicide among adults ages 45 to 64 decreased by 12.4 percent, and the percent change among those older than 65 was negligible.
