55% of Americans are unable to enjoy life due to stress: Report

About 61 percent of adults in the U.S. are experiencing an all-time high level of stress, and 55 percent feel unable to enjoy life because of it, according to Clever's "State of Stress in America" report for 2023.

Personal financing and real estate website Clever surveyed 1,000 adults in the U.S. from Feb. 22-23 about the level of stress they experience on a daily basis.

Here are seven more findings from the report:

1. Fifty-nine percent of respondents indicated that the last 12 months have been the most stressful of their lives.

2. Fifty-five percent of millennial and Gen Z respondents said they struggle to function due to stress, compared to 30 percent of baby boomers.

3. Sixty-one percent said they experience physical symptoms such as headaches or insomnia due to stress.

4. Fifty-seven percent said they are stressed about their mental health.

5. Among the generations, 48 percent of Gen Zers rated their mental health as "somewhat or very poor." Forty percent of millennials, 34 percent of Gen Xers and 17 percent of baby boomers said the same.

6. Thirty percent of respondents said they are not doing anything to improve their mental health.

7. Fifty-two percent indicated they would be willing to pay more in taxes for the government to provide better mental health services.
