As part of its 2025 MA rate announcement on April 1, the agency finalized the addition of depression screenings and follow-ups for adolescents and adults, along with adult immunization status, for future Star years.

CMS is also considering including an initiation and engagement of substance use disorder treatment measure in future Star Ratings, pending rulemaking.

The new measures are part of CMS aligning a subset of measures across all its programs, called the “Universal Foundation,” which will promote consistency and reduce provider burden.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
